Happy Monday everyone! Today I want to share with you a homemade laundry
detergent I made a few weeks ago. Before I got into making my own
laundry detergent, I used Kirkland's detergent but I was running out and
I've always wanted to try making my own and going the more "natural"
way since both my son and husband have more sensitive skin. I found
*this* recipe and I decided to give it a shot... After a few weeks of
using the homemade soap I'm completely sold. It cleans very well, the
boys are not allergic to it, makes towels fluffy, and absorbs odor-
that's from the baking soda. I'm very happy with this new method of
washing clothes without harsh chemicals.
Ingredients:
1 Box of Super Washing Soda 3 lb. 7 oz.
1 Box of Borax 4 lbs 12 oz.
1 Box of Pure Baking Soda 4 lb.
3 bars of Fels-Naptha 5.5 oz. or you could also use Ivory soap
1 container of Oxy-Clean 1.3 lb
1 bag of Baking Soda 5 lb (I had a 12 lb bag of BS so I just used my Borax box to measure the BS.
*optional: 28 oz. of Downy unstoppables for scent
(the pink one is my favorite, I just add a small amount to my laundry whenever I want a boost of fragrance)

Mix all the ingredients up really well. And it should look something like this.
Pour it into to your container of choice-- not all would fit into the jar I had. If you end up like me, store the rest in the bag you used to make it in and refill your jar or container when needed.
And that's it! Super simple to make!
Depending on how large your load is-- use 1 or 2 tablespoons to each load
Let me know if you have any questions.

I've been wanting to try making my own detergent. Thanks for the how-to! :)
ReplyDeletewhat is the difference between the 1 box (4lb) pure baking soda & the
ReplyDelete5lb bag of baking soda?
Hi Diana,
ReplyDeleteThis recipe has baking soda listed twice...that's a whole lot of baking soda. I'm looking forward to making this recipe!
