HOW TO SPRAY PAINT GLASS

I've always had a love/hate relationship with my dining room walls -- I could never get them to look just right. They were either to plain or to crowded. It took about one year for me to find the idea of putting plates on the wall. Duh! A few weeks ago, I saw this post on a favorite blog of mine and I knew with a few trips to the thrift store I could pull this off. So I went to goodwill a few times and found the plates I liked. I didn't care so much about what color they were as long as they had a nice shape to them. Oh and of course, best of all this only cost me $20.




 I started off by cleaning my plates with alcohol. Aren't they pretty?

 Spray your plates (or any type of glass) with a flat paint first. -- This way when you go to apply the glossy paint it will stick and not run. 

I gave the back of the plates a light spray first, then spray the front.
 After the FLAT spray paint I used GLOSS paint. Got this paint from Home Depot for $1.50
*I didn't use gloss on the back of the plates*
 I used really strong glue to bond the metal hangers to the plates.

 I let the glue set for 24 hours before hanging the plates on the wall.



 

Looks pretty good in my opinion. What do you think?

    They look fabulous! I have been hoarding, I mean collecting plates lately from thrift stores to do the same type of spray painted plate wall. I think all white looks fabulous, in our house (we have a lot of colour) it would totally balance and tone down things... I love it in your neutral scheme. Thanks for the tips about the glue - I was planning to try to make my own hangers as well and now I know how. Totally pinned!!

    Great idea! It's stylish, creative yet cheap. Letting the glue set for 24 hour sounds like a long time, but at least you have the assurance that you can hang them on the wall without them falling off the wall and breaking. We look forward to seeing more DIY from you.

    I love spraying plates too, they are simple but classic. Your plate wall turned out just beautiful! I love that oval plate on the bottom. So pretty!
